Los Angeles Times Honors Two Hunton Andrews Kurth Partners In Inaugural Business of Law Awards

Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP is pleased to announce that partners Ann Marie Mortimer and Emily Burkhardt Vicente were recently named to The Los Angeles Times’ inaugural Business of Law: Trends, Updates, Visionaries & In-House Counsel Leadership Awards Magazine.

This first annual publication features “California-licensed in-house counsel and firm lawyers who are impacting change… and have demonstrated noteworthy success and accomplishments during the last 24 months.” The Los Angeles Times editorial team compiled the list of honorees based on nominations and then recognized the winners in their August 29 issue. Both Mortimer and Vicente were selected as visionaries for the law firm category.

As co-head of the firm’s commercial litigation practice and managing partner of the firm’s Los Angeles office, Mortimer is an accomplished litigator and a strategic problem solver focused on achieving positive business results in complex cases. She explores new novel cybersecurity litigation threatening the fundamental business of global brands on the regular. She has first-chaired high-profile cases to resolution and her ability to decode technical allegations into common-sense themes is among the reasons clients return to her repeatedly to assist with their most complex class action, commercial and data breach cases. In addition, Mortimer was named a 2020 MVP in Cybersecurity & Privacy by Law360 and a Top Woman Lawyer as well as a Top Cyber Lawyer in California by The Daily Journal. She has also been recognized multiple times by the Los Angeles Business Journal for “Most Influential Women Attorneys” and “Top Litigators in Los Angeles.”

Co-chair of the firm’s labor and employment team, Vicente is an accomplished trial lawyer who has defended some of the largest Fortune 100 companies in high-stakes employment and wage-hour litigation and is experienced in taking hybrid class and collective action cases to jury trial. She has helped a number of clients navigate sexual harassment claims fraught with legal and public relations challenges in the #metoo era. In her counseling practice, Vicente assists companies in developing forward-thinking compliance strategies that reduce disputes and mitigate employment-related risks. Recently, she creatively advised a variety of businesses through workforce issues attendant to closing, reopening and operating a business during the unprecedented challenges created by COVID-19. Vicente also works with Fortune 100 companies on the design and implementation of diversity and inclusion programs and other ESG initiatives. Additionally, she serves as co-chair of the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee, which is dedicated to advancing the promotion, retention and advancement of diverse lawyers and staff within the firm and community. Most recently Vicente was nominated for the Diversity & Inclusion Award by the Los Angeles Business Journal, named among the 2020 Women Worth Watching by Profiles in Diversity Journal and listed as one of the Los Angeles Business Journal’s 2021 Women of Influence.
