Veterans Pro Bono Training: CRSC and Burn Pits
Veterans Pro Bono Training: CRSC and Burn Pits
Wednesday, April 27 – 1:00-1:30 pm ET
Please join us for a virtual pro bono training webinar presented by the National Veterans Legal Services Program's Lawyers Serving Warriors pro bono program. This half-hour training will prepare volunteer lawyers to assist veterans who are seeking Combat-Related Special Compensation. Combat-Related Special Compensation (CRSC) is a tax-free monthly benefit payment awarded to veterans with injuries related to combat. This training will provide an overview of Combat-Related Special Compensation, the application process, and discuss recent developments in the law.
The training will also include an overview on medical conditions caused by exposure to open “burn pits” used by service members to dispose of trash and other waste during deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, and other areas of Southwest Asia during the Gulf War. On August 2, 2021, the VA implemented a presumption for veterans who served in those areas that asthma, rhinitis, and sinusitis are presumed to be caused by exposure to particulate matter from burn pits. As a result, these conditions may now qualify veterans for Combat-Related Special Compensation if they have service connection for those conditions.
We are excited to offer this training in partnership with Capital One. Hunton Andrews Kurth and Capital One lawyers work collaboratively on certain NVLSP matters as part of the organizations’ pro bono partnership.
Hunton Andrews Kurth and Capital One are proud to support NVLSP in its efforts to protect our nation’s service members and veterans, and we hope you will join us to learn more about how you can help!
