Hunton Andrews Kurth Advises on Westar Energy, Inc.’s and Kansas Gas and Electric Company’s Tax-Exempt Bond Remarketing Transactions
Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP advised Westar Energy, Inc. (“Westar Energy”) and Kansas Gas and Electric Company (“KG&E”) in connection with the remarketing of (i) $75.5 million aggregate principal amount of Series 1994 Kansas Pollution Control Revenue Refunding Bonds (Wester Resources, Inc. Project), which were previously issued for the benefit of Westar Energy and (ii) $46.4 million aggregate principal amount of Series 1994 and 1994B Kansas Pollution Control Revenue Refunding Bonds (Kansas Gas and Electric Company Project), which were previously issued for the benefit of KG&E.
Westar Energy, a Kansas corporation incorporated in 1924, is the largest electric utility in Kansas and provides electric generation, transmission and distribution services to approximately 700,000 customers in central and northeastern Kansas, including the cities of Topeka, Lawrence, Manhattan, Salina and Hutchinson. Westar Energy is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Evergy, Inc. KG&E, Westar’s wholly-owned subsidiary, is a regulated electric utility incorporated in 1990 in the state of Kansas. KG&E provides electric generation, transmission and distribution services to approximately 331,000 customers in south-central and southeastern Kansas, including the city of Wichita. Both Westar Energy and KG&E conduct business using the name Westar Energy.
