Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP recently represented the Las Vegas Stadium Authority in connection with several agreements to build a new stadium for the region’s new Major League Baseball team, The Athletics, which is relocating from Oakland, California. The 33,000-seat, fixed-roof stadium will be located on the Las Vegas Strip on a 9-acre portion of the 35-acre site of the former Tropicana Las Vegas on the Las Vegas Strip. Construction is scheduled to start during the second quarter of 2025.

Hunton Andrews Kurth represented the Las Vegas Stadium Authority in connection with the negotiation of the Development Agreement, the Lease Agreement and the Non-Relocation Agreement. The firm began representing the Las Vegas Stadium Authority in early 2017 in connection with the development and lease of Allegiant Stadium, the home of the NFL Las Vegas Raiders. Allegiant Stadium opened in 2020.

Leading the team for Hunton Andrews Kurth is partner, Mark Arnold. “The approval of these agreements marks a notable step towards securing a new home for the Oakland A’s and we are very proud to have worked on this project,” said Arnold. “We take great pride in our long-standing relationship with Steve Hill and the Las Vegas Stadium Authority and look forward to our continued effort to achieve this milestone.”

Working with Arnold on this transaction is counsel Ryan J. Pedraza. The Hunton Andrews Kurth team collaborated with Las Vegas Stadium Authority in-house counsel, Caroline Bateman, and local Nevada counsel, Angela Otto from Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck LLP.

Arnold was named a 2022 Sports, Gaming and Entertainment Trailblazer by The National Law Journal. He previously represented the Las Vegas Stadium Authority in 2017/2018 in connection with the relocation of the National Football League’s Oakland Raiders to Las Vegas and the development of its $1.9 billion, 65,000-seat domed stadium. More recently Arnold represented the Maryland Stadium Authority in the renegotiation of its lease with the Baltimore Ravens and in connection with lease renewal negotiations with the Baltimore Orioles.
