Hunton & Williams LLP Receives Human Rights Initiative of North Texas' 2010 Angel of Freedom Award

WASHINGTON — October 19, 2010 — Hunton & Williams LLP has been selected to receive the prestigious 2010 Angel of Freedom Award from Human Rights Initiative (HRI) of North Texas. The Dallas-based nonprofit agency recognized the tremendous contributions made by H. Campbell Zachry, Amy E. Wells, Ashley Drummond and Lori Wester to protect and promote human rights through their pro bono legal work. This is the highest award given by HRI and Hunton & Williams is one of only three recipients this year. The award will be presented at the agency's annual Thanksgiving event in November.

HRI recognizes organizations and individuals whose sustained support over time has contributed significantly to the agency's ability to carry out its mission to promote international human rights through local service to refugees and immigrants who have suffered human rights abuses.

Hunton & Williams, recipient of the 2010 Beacon of Justice Award from the National Legal Aid & Defender Association and the 2009 Pro Bono Institute's John H. Pickering Award, continues to lead the way in community service in the United States. The firm donated nearly 70,000 hours to pro bono service in its completed fiscal year ending March 31. This commemorates 16 continuous years of meeting or exceeding the Pro Bono Institute's Law Firm Pro Bono Challenge of donating at least 3 percent of its annual billable hours to pro bono service and involved 100 percent of the firm’s full-time U.S. lawyers participating in pro bono projects.
