Hunton & Williams LLP’s Rudene Haynes Receives VBA's Sandra P. Thompson Award

RICHMOND— February 3, 2012 — Hunton & Williams LLP partner Rudene Mercer Haynes received the Sandra P. Thompson Award from the Virginia Bar Association, Young Lawyers Division, at its 122nd annual meeting held in January. The award, established in 1979, recognizes an individual for outstanding work and long-term service. Haynes has been an active and effective member of the VBA and has served on the executive committee of the Young Lawyers Division and other committees of the Bar.

Haynes, who focuses her legal practice on corporate finance, primarily focused on structured finance and securitization, serves as co-chair of Hunton & Williams’ Diversity Programming Committee and of the University of Texas Law School Campus Recruiting Initiative. In 2011 she was named among one of the 2011 "Most Influential Women in Virginia" by Virginia Lawyers Weekly, for her notable contributions to her profession and the community.

For the past several years, Haynes has served as a panelist for the Careers in Law Segment for the Mid-Atlantic Black Law Students Association Conference. She currently chairs the Governance Committee at William Byrd Community House, an organization dedicated to transforming the lives of individuals and families through building self-sufficiency. Haynes has also served as a member on the board for St. Andrew's School, a private tuition-free school that educates children of limited resources. Haynes was recently selected to participate in the national Leadership Council on Legal Diversity's Fellows Program.
