Los Angeles Office Celebrates National Adoption Day

National Adoption Day, an initiative in which courts across the country open their doors to finalize adoptions of foster care children, celebrated its 13th anniversary on November 23, 2014. An idea conceived in Los Angeles by The Alliance for Children’s Rights, National Adoption Day is now celebrated in all 50 states and in more than 350 communities nationwide. Hunton & Williams lawyers and staff in the Los Angeles office have taken active roles in the celebratory events during the past several years, and the Los Angeles area now hosts adoption days several times throughout the year. A full day is spent at the Edmund D. Edelman Children’s Court in Monterey by lawyers working with foster parents and children seeking long-awaited adoptions. Los Angeles office lawyers Stephanie Chen, Gerard Olson, Andrew Peterson devoted numerous pro bono hours to three different families and Emily Gamarra attended the event with family members to provide support. In addition, office lawyers and staff donated money to provide gifts for the children.
