According to the National Law Journal, firms that have built track records financing renewable-energy projects for equity investors are enjoying solid business, despite the credit crisis.

William Brownell, head of the climate change practice of Hunton & Williams, agrees, saying "European regulations requiring investments in renewable power and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, and the anticipation of similar regulations soon in the United States, is driving investment regardless of the credit freeze."

In its article NLJ noted "[Hunton & Williams] last month completed a $47 million deal to finance a power plant in Belgium that will use wood waste to produce both electricity and 50,000 tons per year of wood pellets that are used widely in Europe as a substitute for coal and natural gas."

Brownell's practice focuses on environmental litigation, regulation and counseling, including climate change regulation and litigation, clean air regulation, environmental licensing and auditing, waste transportation and management, dangerous substances testing and labeling and water quality regulation.
