CIPL to Host APEC Cross-Border Privacy Rules Workshop in the Philippines
Time 2 Minute Read

On August 29, 2015, the Centre for Information Policy Leadership at Hunton & Williams (“CIPL”) will host a half-day workshop in Cebu, Philippines, on the APEC Cross-Border Privacy Rules (“CBPR”) and their role in enabling legal compliance and international data transfers. The CBPR are a privacy code of conduct developed by the 21 APEC member economies for cross-border data flows in the Asia-Pacific region.

The workshop is designed for information controllers and third party certification organizations (Accountability Agents) interested in the APEC CBPR, as well as for regulators in the Asia-Pacific region who are charged with enforcing the code of conduct. In addition, the workshop will introduce information processors based in APEC economies to the proposed APEC Privacy Recognition for Processors (“PRP”). The workshop also will cover the ongoing work on “dual certification” under both the CBPR and the EU’s Binding Corporate Rules.

The format of the workshop will be interactive and will focus on practical issues relevant to companies that are interested in seeking or providing CBPR certification (and PRP recognition when it becomes available).

The workshop will take place on the margins of the APEC Data Privacy Subgroup and Electronic Commerce Steering Group meetings during APEC’s Senior Officials Meeting, and will benefit from the participation of many CBPR and PRP experts from government and the private sector who will be present at these meetings.

The workshop will be accessible to both APEC delegates and non-APEC delegates.
